The Real Challenges of Office Removals in London

Unwanted desks, chairs, and filing cabinets don’t have to go to landfill. We arrange responsible disposal, donating usable items where possible and recycling the rest – in line with our commitment to sustainable commercial removals in London.

01

ULEZ and congestion zone logistics

Our vehicles meet ULEZ emissions standards. We factor Congestion Charge zone costs into your quote upfront – no surprise additions.

02

City of London and Canary Wharf access restrictions

We liaise with building managers in advance, confirm loading bay bookings, and plan arrival times around site-specific access windows.

03

Out-of-hours building access

Many commercial landlords only permit moves outside core hours. We offer evening and weekend moves as standard – your building’s rules, our schedule.

04

IT and server room disconnection/reconnection

Servers, workstations and network equipment are crated, protected in transit and labelled to their new positions. Disconnection and reconnection sits with your own IT provider, and we build the schedule around when they can attend so nothing waits on anyone.

05

Staff disruption and productivity loss

A dedicated move coordinator plans every phase around your business calendar. The aim is always to hand over a working office rather than a room full of crates.

06

Parking suspensions in central London

Central boroughs each set their own notice periods, fees and application routes, and Westminster and the City are among the strictest. At survey we tell you exactly what your address needs and how far ahead it has to go in, so the application is made once and on time.

How Our London Office Removals Work

A well-run office move follows a clear process. Here's ours.

01.

Survey, Quote & Planning

We begin with a on-site or video survey to assess volume, access, parking, and any specialist requirements. You then receive an itemised quotation built against that inventory. Your dedicated move coordinator uses this information to build a tailored moving plan around your business schedule, building access restrictions, and IT setup.

02.

Sustainable Packing

Our team arrives with reusable crates, colour-coded labels, and eco-friendly packing materials. We pack methodically, starting with IT equipment, then furniture, followed by general office contents, so everything stays organised and unpacking is quicker and more efficient.

03.

Moving Day Execution

On moving day, we arrive on time, manage parking logistics, and work to the agreed schedule. Your move coordinator remains on-site throughout as your single point of contact, ensuring any adjustments are handled quickly and with minimal disruption.

04.

Setup & Handover

Once at your new premises, we unload, reassemble furniture, and place items according to your floor plan. IT equipment is positioned ready for reconnection, and we only leave once everything is in place and you are fully satisfied.

Office Removals in London - Frequently Asked Questions

Find clear answers to common questions about our London office removal services, from planning and packing to moving day and setup.

Quotations are itemised after a survey against a written inventory. Provided the load matches that inventory, the figure does not change on the day, and anything chargeable separately is identified while the surveyor is with you.

Yes. Out-of-hours and weekend moves are available as standard. Many London office buildings – particularly in the City of London and Canary Wharf – require moves to take place outside core hours, and we’re set up to accommodate that. Evening and Saturday moves are our most popular option for businesses that can’t afford any working-day disruption.

Yes. Our vehicles meet ULEZ emissions standards, so there’s no additional charge for moves within the Ultra Low Emission Zone. For moves into the Congestion Charge zone, we factor the charge into your quote upfront – you’ll never see it as a surprise addition on your invoice. We’re experienced at navigating central London logistics, including restricted access areas in Westminster and the City.

We use reusable plastic transit crates instead of single-use cardboard wherever practical, low-emission vans, and optimised routing to reduce unnecessary mileage. Packing materials that can’t be reused are recyclable. For office furniture clearance, we prioritise donation and recycling over landfill. Our approach to sustainable commercial removals in London is practical and measurable – not just a badge on the website.

We recommend booking at least 4–6 weeks in advance for most office moves, and 8–12 weeks for larger or more complex relocations. End-of-month dates and Friday moves book up quickly across London. That said, we can often accommodate shorter notice – call us and we’ll check availability. The earlier you book, the more flexibility you have on date and timing.

Yes. EcoGreen Movers carries full goods-in-transit insurance and public liability cover on every commercial removal. This includes IT equipment, servers, office furniture, and general office contents. You can request a copy of our insurance certificates before your move date. We’re fully insured for business removals in London and across the UK.

Yes. Our secure London storage facilities are available for short-term and long-term use, and the service is fully integrated with our removals – we collect, store, and redeliver when you’re ready. It’s ideal for businesses in a chain, those undergoing a phased fit-out, or anyone downsizing and needing somewhere for surplus furniture. Storage is quoted transparently alongside your removal.

How Much Notice Each London Borough Actually Needs

There is no single London rule. Notice periods run from about three working days in parts of Bromley to roughly seventeen in Camden, and the fees, the application routes and the small print differ in every borough. If your move crosses boroughs, and most office moves do, you are working to two sets of rules at once.
BoroughNotice for a bay suspensionThe detail that catches people out
CamdenAround 17 working daysThe longest lead time in London. Plan the move around it, not the other way round.
Islington14 daysLoading is free where it is continuous. Breaks in loading mean you need a paid permission instead.
Hounslow10 working daysA yellow line request needs evidence of the exact location, ideally a screenshot from the council map.
HarrowUp to 10 working daysThe council does not tow. A car sitting in your paid bay can be ticketed but not removed.
BarnetVaries by applicationA non refundable administration fee of £165.12 per application, and the bays are your responsibility to get right.
Hammersmith and Fulham8 days for up to six baysWeekends count toward the notice, and amendments cost £40 each.
EalingStandard applicationA suspended resident bay is protected 24 hours a day, so an early start is genuinely available.
EnfieldStandard applicationA dispensation is £10 per vehicle for a week, but it has to be collected in person at Crown Road.
BromleyAbout 3 working daysLarge parts of the borough are not controlled at all, so often no application is needed.
Manchester, for comparison5 working daysThe council advises against relying on Google Maps and asks for a site visit before applying.

The figures above come from the councils themselves and change from time to time, so treat them as a planning guide rather than a quotation. What does not change is the shape of the problem: the borough with the longest notice period sets your timeline, and that is almost never the one people check first.

The practical consequence is simple. If you are moving from Camden to Southwark, the Camden end governs when everything has to be decided, which may be three weeks before a lease you have not signed yet. Knowing that at the survey rather than in the final fortnight is the difference between a planned move and an expensive one.

The Lorry Rule That Catches Out of Hours Office Moves

Most office moves happen in the evening or at a weekend, which is precisely when the London Lorry Control Scheme applies. The scheme restricts heavier goods vehicles on many London roads overnight and at weekends, and the penalties are among the steepest in the city: five hundred and fifty pounds for the operator and a hundred and thirty for the driver.

This rarely comes up in a removals quotation, and it should. A firm quoting you a Saturday night move with a large vehicle either holds the right permits and routes accordingly, or it does not and is hoping. The difference is invisible on a quotation and very visible afterwards.

What it means for your move

It shapes three things: which vehicle is sent, which roads it takes to reach you, and what time it can realistically arrive and leave. A move that could run with one large vehicle on a Tuesday morning may need two smaller ones on a Saturday night, and that is a cost difference worth understanding before you choose your date rather than after.

It also explains why an out of hours move is not simply the same job at a different time. The route planning is genuinely different, and on a central London address it is often the constraint that decides everything else.

Six Weeks Out to Moving Day: What Happens When

Office moves rarely go wrong on the day. They go wrong four weeks earlier, when something that needed a fortnight of notice was left for the final week.

Six weeks out

Book the survey. It costs you a short visit and it produces the inventory that everything else depends on. This is also the point to find out which boroughs you are dealing with at both ends and what notice each one requires, because that answer sets every other date.

Four weeks out

Confirm the building rules. Most commercial landlords in London restrict moves to outside core hours and require a booked goods lift or loading bay. Managing agents work to their own lead times and are not obliged to accommodate yours. Get the slot in writing.

Three weeks out

Decide what is not coming with you. Volume drives the price and the duration, and archive filing is usually the largest single volume in an office. Anything going to disposal or reuse needs booking now, because charity collections and commercial clearance both work on lead times measured in weeks.

Two weeks out

Lodge the parking applications and confirm IT. Disconnection and reconnection of servers, workstations and phone systems is your own provider work rather than ours, so their availability has to be pinned against the move window rather than assumed.

The final week

Circulate the floor plan with desks numbered, name the person on site who can make decisions, and confirm the load order. Anything requested on the day rather than agreed beforehand is priced at a short notice rate, because the vehicles and crew were planned around the original scope.

Five Questions Worth Asking Any London Office Removals Firm

Quotations are hard to compare because they rarely describe the same job. These five questions make two quotes comparable in about five minutes.

1. What is this price actually based on?

A figure produced without a survey is an estimate dressed as a quotation. Ask what inventory it is built on and what happens if the volume on the day differs from it. A written list is the only thing that makes a price meaningful.

2. Which borough rules apply at each end, and what notice do they need?

If a firm cannot tell you this, it has not looked at your addresses. The answer differs by borough and it governs your timeline, so it is a fair test of whether anyone has done any thinking yet.

3. What is not included?

Packing, materials, dismantling and reassembly, storage and out of hours rates are all commonly charged separately. There is nothing wrong with that, provided you are told before rather than after. Ask for the exclusions in writing.

4. What cover applies, and what does it actually pay?

Ask for the figure per item and the total ceiling, and whether it is insurance or a contractual arrangement between you and the firm. The two are not the same thing, and the difference matters if something is damaged. Ours is set out plainly in our terms rather than buried.

5. What happens if the date moves?

Commercial dates slip constantly. Ask what a change costs at four weeks, two weeks and two days, and whether any deposit is returnable. A firm that has a published answer has thought about it. A firm that improvises one on the phone will improvise the invoice too.
